Over the Hills and not so far away

On Sunday 2 March 2008, 38 members and guests with 20 cars met up near Catral-San Isidro for the start of the run on a lovely warm and sunny day. Question sheets were issued for members to fill in along the way - the incentive being a bottle of champagne for the winners! We went through Albatera and took a relaxed country route up through La Murada- Albanilla-heading towards Pinoso. The whole route had stunning mountain backdrops, which are covered in vines or lemon/orange trees.Turning off the Pinoso road we entered the beautiful Hondon Valley and passed through Barinas- Micisvenda, and then headed for the smallest village for miles (sorry km) El Canton. After being suitably refreshed and time to walk round the village we continued to the two Hondons - Frailes and Nieves (Friars and Snows). Continuing towards Aspe we turned towards Crevillente and took a dramatic country road around a large mountain lake. It was a lovely drive with magnificent views.
Then, we drove through Crevillente and headed for our well deserved lunch at the Restaurant Imperial Just south of Crevillente. The winners of the competition were David and Barbara Patten.
