December Ace Cafe Meeting
Sunday 06 December 2009
Sunday December 6th 2009.An excellent turn out of more than thirty eight Classic Cars proved that this is indeed an event that was missing in the local Classic Car scene.
The weather was again kind to us as more and more Classic Cars turned up to this, the third “ Ace Café ” meeting, not only members of the Phoenix Car Club but many other classic car lovers including lots of Spaniards proudly arrived to show-off their own pride and joy.
Amongst all the Mustangs, the Corvette Stingrays, the MGs, VWs, and many other makes of popular Classics, was one that we all wished we owned, namely a superb example of a Jaguar XK140.
This 1956 XK140 Coupé is owned by a Spanish architect living in Callosa de Segura who also owns five other classics and two Micro cars. The Jaguar is one of his favourites and he was very proud to tell us something about it. He bought the car in Indiana USA and had it transported to Spain where it was restored at Auto-Storica in Barcelona, the restoration took 2½ years and included power steering, and all round disk brakes. The car has an engine with 6 in line cylinders with a total of 4234 cc. and produces 180.32 horsepower, also a double overhead camshaft with hemispherical combustion chambers and two Solex carburettors. The spoked wheels have 205/75 R 15 tyres and Tambor brakes. The car has a total weight of 1430 kilo and is a 2+2 seater.
His other five cars include A 1956 Mercedes 190 SL, a 1933 Rolls Royce Drop-head 30/35, a Figaro, a Jeep Wrangler and a 1971 MG CGT Mark 1. His Micro cars are a 1957 P.T.V. Roadster with a 250 cc engine and a 1955 Biscuter ‘ Vision ’ with a 1 cylinder Hispano Villiers 197 cc engine.
But back to real life, Linda Rowbotham was pleased to be able to supply some club shirts to some of our newer members, Sandra took some very last minute bookings for the Christmas drive, the former MG garage owner now living in Hondon introduced himself, and Bruce spoke to the President of another important club and maybe in the future we may be invited to take part in some of their club events. All-in-all a very enjoyable couple of hours of meeting other people and seeing lots of new and different Classics.
