Firstly, everyone on the Steering Group would like to thank you for the help and support you have given us over the last five weeks.

Just a reminder of who is on the Steering Group:

Neil & Elaine Evans (coordinators) - yellow MGB Roadster (1977) Mel & Sandra Baker - red GP beach buggy (1954 VW chassis) & white VW Beetle (1971) Jeff Sheridan - Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider (1979) Terry Braithwaite – green MGB Roadster (1974)

Tuesday 28 August – Informal evening at Mirador

Well, what an evening this was! We had a large turnout for the event which started over informal drinks, with members of the Steering Group updating prospective members on the progress made in forming our new Club.

Elaine gave a quick report to everyone on the work that has already been completed.

• Name of the Club – we had a voting exercise for this and the majority voted for Phoenix Car Club.
• Constitution – this document went out for consultation, no objections were received and it is now finalised.
• Membership Fees – these have now been set at €36 for Joint Membership, €24 for Individual Membership and €12 for Associate Membership. We have tried to set the fees at a realistic rate for the first year – we are not trying to make a profit and the object is to create an inclusive club so people shouldn΄t be excluded on grounds of cost – therefore there is no joining fee. Joint and Individual members will be each entitled to vote and be eligible for full club benefits.
• Membership Cards – these have been designed and are on order.
• Car Categories – guidelines have been produced for the new Executive Committee.
• Membership and financial systems – these have been designed and are ready to go.
• Club Events – a programme has been put in place for the remainder of 2007 including 3 Club trips, a night out at the Benidorm Palace and a Christmas Dinner & Dance.
• Website – Phase I work is progressing and we are hoping that the site will be live by mid-September.

Rick Meopham gave a quick outline of a charitable event that the Royal Air Force Association is holding on Saturday 8 September. This is outside the Club programme but people were invited to display their cars and join in the activities RAFA have planned for that day. He will be sending out full details very soon if you are interested in coming along for the afternoon.

We then helped ourselves to food and drink and relaxed outside – there was dancing to the excellent music provided by the Mirador΄s DJ. There were still people there after midnight!

The good news is that we now have 30 members of our new Club as nearly everyone signed up during the evening. If you were not able to attend the evening, please email us if you would like an application form.

Wednesday 19 September – Inaugural get together Clubnight

From 7pm to 8 pm there is an opportunity to get together and open our classic car bonnets and natter to fellow enthusiasts to exchange ideas and mechanical knowledge. Membership applications and payment will be accepted during the evening. At 8pm we will be talking about the forthcoming Annual General Meeting on 17 October and there will be a presentation about the positions on the new Executive Committee and the election process. Mel will be giving a full briefing on Sunday΄s trip (23 September) to Novelda. This is a very special event and bookings are being taken NOW – if you would like to reserve a place(s) you must book with Sandra Baker in advance before Tuesday 18 September. Full details of the trip and photographs were in our August bulletin – if you want another copy of this, please ask.

Keep in touch!! If you would like to contact any of us with comments, ideas, input to our particular areas of work, offers of help – please feel free.
