Club Mystery Run

photo. Click to view full imageOn Sunday, 26 October, 50 members and guests with 24 cars met up for coffee in Los Montesinos for the Clubīs Mystery Run. The weather was in doubt, but after a short while the sun came out and it turned into a beautiful warm, sunny day. Everyone had question sheets to fill in along the way, with a promise of prizes over lunch for the winners.

The convoy left Montesinos and complete with police escort drove into Torrevieja – lots of people were relaxing outside the cafes and restaurants on the main sea front Paseo and greeted the sight of all the classic and specialist cars with great enthusiasm. We followed the coast road through Playa del Cura and Playa Los Locos towards La Mata, glimpsing a very rough sea along the way!

We were picked up by another police escort as we approached Guardamar after driving through the town centre, we turned into the back roads which run through the pine forests and dunes, finally reaching Guardamarīs wonderful park with its lakes, birds and turtles where special parking had been provided and stopped off for refreshments and a look around the park.

Continuing on, we turned off just past Santa Pola to Faro de Cabo. This area is known as the Grande Mola and is one of the few areas left that is still wild and untamed. We had a short stop to take photos of the lighthouse and Tabarca Island, before pressing on to Elche.

When we arrived in Elche, we were greeted at RHS Coches by Rob and Helen Saltiel, the owners who are also Phoenix Club members. Over cakes and coffee, members had the opportunity to walk around the large premises, admire the classic vehicles for sale in the showroom and see the workshop facilities.

We then turned out attention to lunch and drove back towards Campo de Guardamar to the restaurant Rosales where we were warmly greeted and a lovely Spanish lunch with ample wine was soon presented to the hungry group.

Prizes were awarded to the members who had completed the questionnaire along the way:
lst prize went to Trish and Tony Mansell for the most correct answers.
2nd prize was won by Dave Reed and Debbie Brearley.
3rd prize was awarded to Dave Metcalf, after a couple of tie breaker questions.

A very special prize was awarded to Ron and Win McCaw for the funniest answers to the questions, which were a great source of amusement to the whole group!

More photos of the day can be seen in the Image Gallery section of the website, some of which are well worth looking at!
