Christmas Drive

photo. Click to view full imagePhoenix Christmas celebration got well under way at the La Torre hotel in Montesinos when 26 cars and 64 members arrived to enjoy coffee and mince pies along with a couple of chocolate quizzes that had been arranged by Sandra.

After we were stoked up on goodies it was time to set off on the drive following Jack in his red MGA, spotting the decorations and lights on route through Algorfa, Almoradi, Daya Nueva and Vieja, then on to Guardamar where the police were waiting to escort us through the streets and on to the parking area. Here we stopped to take in some air and stroll around but most headed for the nearest coffee shop as I must say It was a bit chilly.

Back at the cars it was time to continue on to our lunch spot at Manolo´s Restaurant, Rojales, where we enjoyed good company, food and wine that made a great start to Christmas.

After the meal it was time to make a toast to the success of the Phoenix Car Club and all its members, and then it was on to the raffle and presentation of the prizes for the chocolate quizzes.

The lucky winners were
Iona Jones-Evans, A luxury hamper
Debbie Brealey, A meal for two on the wine run
Rob Innis, A crystal bracelet donated by Marianne Waring
Ron McCaw, A voucher for a meal for two at the Castillo de Conesa
Annette Lacy-Hopper, A coffee machine donated by Karl Nuenzer
Ernie Foster, A voucher for a menu del dia for two at Manolo`s
Jan Neunzer, A Royal Doulton lead crystal decanter
Ann Edghill, A 50 Euro discount voucher for RHS
Jim Benden: guess the number of chocolates (and he was spot on at 95)
Tracy Bailiss/Susan Hare: A box chocolates and a bottle of cava, A joint effort on the chocolate quiz

All in all a great day albeit over too soon, and many thanks to all the members and organisers who have helped, supported and arranged things during 2008 to make Phoenix what it is today, and here’s looking forward to an even better 2009.

Merry Christmas and wishing you all a happy and fun New Year.
