January Clubnight and Quiz
Considering what a cold night it was, the first Club Night meeting of 2009 got off to a good start with more than fifty members and guests attending. After everyone had the opportunity to “thaw” out in the warmth of the Castillo Porch, have a drink, mix and mingle and catch up on all the festive news, the Quiz began for those who wanted to compete, and six teams were formed.
The Quiz comprised of four categories, (general knowledge, geography, sport and history), with ten questions per category.
A complete hush seemed to descend in the room, as all the teams knuckled down to the task in hand, overseen by Jack as the Grand Quiz Master.
In between rounds, there was a fun cryptic quiz with all the answers relating to cities. This really seemed to test the members knowledge and was an admirable time filler whilst the teams’ answer papers were exchanged for marking.
All the teams did extremely well but one team were the outright winners (by 2 points) and they called themselves “ The Brain Dead ” with a score of 27 of the 40 questions correct, winning a bottle of Cava each. “ The Seven Dwarfs ” scored 20 points and commiserated with an appropriate “booby prize” each.
The remaining four teams scored between 22 and 25 points. A very close contest indeed!
Congratulations and well done to all those who took part.
The general consensus was that this was a very enjoyable evening and not too taxing on the “old grey cells!”.
