June Club Drive
The only thing on this drive that was a twist was the fabulous route chosen by Dave, for the rest it was an honest interesting drive with welcome refreshment stops and a delicious Chinese meal at the end of it.
40 members with 21 classic cars met at the well known ‘Lo Monte Hotel’ our starting point. The day began with coffee and greetings from old and new friends, and as a truly international club we also had the privilege to host some fellow aficionados from Belarus ( part of the former USSR ), whom were very interested to know what we do with ourselves on our Sunday outings.
Off we went into the Spanish sunshine with a variety of VW’s, Mercedes and MG’s and not to mention Adrian’s new red Corvette Stingray which drew a lot of attention. With an engine of over 5 liters this car is the biggest in the club.
The route led us through the hills of the Sierra de Escalon, which roughly translated means the stepped hillsides, and it was easy to see why the area got its name. The twisty, sometimes very steep country roads which brought us up to the top of the Cabezo de la Plata and then back down again, was a magnificent drive, testing the cars and their drivers to the limit. A welcome first drinks stop, then onto Torremondo, and through the countryside back towards CampoVerde and Pilar de la Horadada. A second extra stop for drinks was also much appreciated, as the temperatures were around 35° in the shade, and especially as most of the cars were convertibles. After a very interesting and enjoyable drive we eventually arrived at our lunch stop in San Pedro, where everyone could cool off and enjoy drinks and the pre arranged Chinese meal.
Well done Dave ( and of course Deborah ), if you can come up with more of this sort of drive then please do, and if other members think they can do the same or better then please let us know !!
The next meeting is on Wednesday the 8th of July at the Castle and is a mix and mingle evening, starting at 18.30, everyone is welcome. Please bring your classic cars.
This was the last drive for this summer, but don’t miss the start of the autumn series: Rocks Romans and Fish, a midweek drive on September 2nd.
