January Club Drive

photo. Click to view full imageWhen Sandra told me at the Ace Café Meeting on the 3rd of January, that there were only six people booked to go on the January Drive my heart sank !.
Although most of the drive had been done two years ago I had added one or two extras and a slightly different route and a visit to the lighthouse in Cabo de Palos hoping to entice the newer members to partake in our monthly outing, what I wanted was the usual turn out of about twenty-five members and twelve cars, this would have made me happy and would have made the effort of organizing the drive, the coffee stop, the carriage museum and the restaurant worth while, but, did we get about twenty-five people and twelve cars NO.
Although we had a cancellation at the very last minute we still had forty five members and friends and twenty five Classic Cars taking part on our first drive of the year. I had had a word with the big boss about the weather and he most kindly accommodated us with a beautiful sunny day on which to enjoy our cars and our drive.
We left the meeting place ( our now familiar Hotel Lo Monte ) in an orderly convoy and made our way through San Pedro del Pinatar, driving passed San Javea airport and through Los Alcazares. Only occasionally regrouping, we made our way onto the coast road of the Mar Menor to Los Urrutias where we stopped at the Club Nautica to look at the boats and enjoy a cup of coffee. Then through several coastal villages and onto the Motorway in the direction of La Manga going off to Cabo de Palos where we parked under the lighthouse and took in the sea air and the sea views from the vantage point at the foot of the lighthouse. As usual the local public were very interested and enthusiastic whilst looking at and admiring our wonderful assortment of well turned out Classic Cars.
Back onto the Motorway to our next stop at the Zamar carriage museum where we were surprised at the exhibition of beautifully preserved and restored carriages and motor bikes from the past. It would have been a pleasure to record our visit with a few photo´s of our members admiring the exhibits but unfortunately photography of the collection is prohibited, even so this did not stop us from spending an enjoyable hour at the museum before going on to our lunch stop in El Algar where we took advantage of a well cooked and well presented meal to round off a very enjoyable day out.

Many thanks to all who took part and made the day as successful as it was.

Our next Club activity is our February Ace Café meeting on Sunday the 7th, and the theme this time will be MG´s and their family of cars, so if you know anyone with an MG, invite them along for our photo shoot. I hope to see you there.
