April Ace Café Meeting
Easter Sunday, warm sunny weather, something pleasant to drink, lots of friendly people and plenty of Classic and Specialist Cars to look at and talk about. What more could you want ?.
However, before I tell you about another successful Ace Café meeting, have you seen the story about Eric and Ann´s Arabian Adventure ?. If not take a look on the ‘Articles of Interest ’ part of our Web Site and be thrilled by their experiences with ample photos to set the scene.
The day was planned to be an ‘Air cooled day ’and as expected several VW Beetles, Karmann Ghias, Porsches and Citroëns that belong to our members and visitors were on show. There were also two VW campers, these vehicles in good condition, have skyrocketed in price, and one was for sale at the Campello VW meeting last week for Euro 40,000 !!
Despite all the other lovely cars, the day was stolen by the arrival of several new to us Classics, one crept in slowly and almost silently and without any fuss. A 1939 Chevrolet Business Coupé owned by a Norwegian gentleman drove through the visiting public, turning many heads as it passed and parked at the end of the row of Classic Cars which were already on display, ( very little space left ) .This Black and Silver coloured beauty immediately demanded the attention of most of the visitors and the owner was proud to show and tell us all about his pride and joy. Another welcome stranger was a very well preserved Renault Caravelle and although not in mint condition looked extremely good for its age, ( according to Car mad Roy, unfortunately you could hear this model rusting away even when new, and he gained lots of knowledge of this car whilst working at a Renault dealership ).
This time several cars had a “ For Sale ” sign on them including a Jaguar XJS Convertible, a Lotus Elan, a VW Karmann Ghia and a Triumph TR 4, all polished and inviting, anyone interested ?. There was also a car related bric-a-brac stall with lots of interesting items for sale proving that the Ace Café meetings are turning out to be not just cars to look at but also offering the opportunity for any new enthusiast to be able to see what it´s all about and what´s on offer, and an opportunity to join the Phoenix Car Club if they so wished.
Sometimes pictures say more than words so take a look on the Image Gallery part of the site and you can see the rest of the cars and what we were getting up to.
