April Club Night - Scalextric Car Racing
The Formula One circus arrived at the Castillo de Conesa once again and with the shock withdrawal of Tony Mansell only hours before the start, the only certainty was that a new Champion would emerge this year. The circuit had been extended and improved from last year so with limited track time testing it was a steep learning curve for teams and drivers alike. A look at the faces of the drivers will show just how seriously they took their task, with utter concentration and no time for a smile.
The knock out stages produced some epic races but few were more competitive than Mick Wybrow battling against his wife Maddy, where at the finish tenacity overcame skill and Maddy won. Two of the heavily fancied drivers met at the semi final stage when Colin Edgehill and Ernie Foster did battle. Those in the know recognised the dental dexterity of a helicopter pilot versus the calculating precision of an engineer so this was going to be close. The lead changed hands throughout a thrilling race and Colin`s final lunge for the lead saw him skid off and Ernie took the flag and into the final where he met John Epsom.
The final was run over 10 laps and in a close fought race Ernie Foster took the chequered flag and received the "Speedy Eagle" trophy. Congratulation to Ernie!
Thanks to everyone who turned out for this event, helping with marshalling, lap danci.. sorry I meant lap counting and of course participating.
