April Club Drive
The bookings list was finalized at the last moment, and the route together with the quiz questions was handed out once the participants had signed-in at the meeting place, and only then could everyone set off to discover what turned out to be an excellent day.
Although there was a mild sort of competition between the members, most of the cars stayed together and the answers to the not so difficult questions were soon written down whilst following the route of the town and country tour.
Setting off at about 10.30 we were soon confronted with the first of the 31 questions that needed to be answered in order to be eligible for the grand prize, and whilst the driver took care of the road the co- driver could read the route and also spot and note the solutions, one or two trick questions were hidden amongst the list but the keen eye and the alert brains of most of the competitors managed to overcome these sneaky twists that Emu and Sooty had put into their quiz.
The route took us through Bigastro then on towards Murcia turning left after Zeneta and right onto the narrow country roads that brought us over the Sierra de Altaona to the lower agricultural lands between Murcia and the coast. Although the weather was uncertain and several black clouds threatened us with possible rain, the day managed to stay dry and after the coffee stop in Balsicas several tops were lowered on the convertibles in order to enjoy the little bit of sun that now and then broke through as we continued on our way. After passing through San Javier we got onto the AP 7 and made good time going through the tunnel ( which was how long ? ) then turning off and over the tops, passed the Real Club de Golf Campoamor Course and down again to San Miguel where an excellent lunch was waiting for us at Meson El Prado.
After enjoying our food and refuelling our systems the tension mounted as Bruce told us the correct answers to all the questions in the quiz, and because of the enthusiastic way in which everyone had taken part almost all the answers were right which fortunately had been precipitated by Emu and Sooty who had because of this anticipation arranged not only a first prize for the highest score but an equal prize for everyone because as expected, everyone was a winner.
The day ended with a well earned round of applause for Bruce and Linda who together with Emu and Sooty had arranged an excellent day out and also an equally excellent Restaurant to finish it with.
