July Ace Café Meeting
But this time it was a special surprise for the members of Our Club because
‘ Surprise-Surprise ’ our former President Elaine Evans and her husband Neil turned up in their Classic Yellow MGB roadster to enjoy the, this time again, fantastic Sunday morning Classic Car meeting. They are here from England, to enjoy a well earned short break, and having heard so many good things about the club´s Ace Café meetings they decided to have a look for themselves. I know that they enjoyed what they saw, and it was nice for the old members that knew them before they returned to England to be able to talk about what has been happening to them and to Our Club.
There were this time uncountable visitors and more than 45 Classic Cars, both known and unknown to us. One of the unknown cars was a beautiful example of a cream coloured 1971 VW Karman Ghia Coupé, which the owner, a Spanish gentleman from Cartegena, had, together with several friends carefully restored from an old rusty wreck. This car proved to be one of the show stealers in the 5th Trobada Mediterránia de VW Clàssics in Campello in March this year. He showed everyone that was interested a book of photo´s in which the restoration had been carefully pictured and documented in the time of one and a half years that the work had taken, and even though he is very proud of the result, as he should be, was reluctant to say what the total restoration had cost, he had stopped counting, he said, but never the less the car is now something for him to enjoy showing and for him and his helpers to be extremely proud of.
Amongst the visitors were a couple from Bolton England, who told me that they have eight Classics from the 50´s, and were restoring even more. The good lady of the family told me that at home there were bits of cars everywhere, even on the kitchen table at times, which of course her husband denied, but he did say that the side windows of one of his restoration projects where next to the bed, “I must keep them safe ”, he said, because they are irreplaceable !!. They have promised to send me some photo´s and some information about all their cars and I will try to get this on the site ( probably in the Gallery section a.s.a.p.). I asked them how they came to be visiting us and they said they were just passing by ( perhaps their Tom-Tom wasn´t working right ), we´re nowhere near Bolton are we?, but anyway it was nice to meet them and to talk about cars.
Although it turned out to be a HOT day there was a nice breeze on the balcony of the Hotel and a welcome cool drink was available inside, the atmosphere was again very friendly and probably lots of new and interesting contacts have been made, what more do we want ?. All in all another successful Sunday morning Ace Café meeting.
Our next event is our “Breakfast morning” on the 14th of July. Details are on the web. I hope to see you there!!.
